OKRs

OKR: Personal

So, I recently listened to an audio booked which completely changed how I think and set targets.

The book is called “Measure what matters” and is all about OKR’s.

I don’t want to write an article about what OKR’s are or how to set them, there is enough information on the web about them, but I would highly recommend you read the book (or listen like me).

Anyone these are my objectives for the quarter.

Also its worth noting my financial year runs ends in Feb so I will be using the same quarters as my business to keep things simple.

Before I get into this quarter’s objective, without realising it I had already been kind of doing an OKR.

So at the start of the year (calendar) I set myself a challenge of walking 1,000 miles. The rules were simple.

A walk would count where I triggered the apple watch walk mode to record, the distance wasn’t important – could be a quarter of a mile or 10 miles – what mattered was that I trigged the walk.

This meant I got outside to walk and not just count walking around the office / house etc.

1,000 miles in a year might sound like a lot, but I quickly broke it down to daily, weekly and monthly targets. It’s only 2.74 miles a day – not that bad.

I am well on course, writing this on 23th October I have modified it slightly at the start of the month, I wanted to have done 900 miles by the end of October, leaving me just 100 miles to do in November and December. I am down to having to work less than 2 miles a day.

I created a Google sheet, which I update with every walk and it tells me my performance.

Yes, I’ve had bad days where I haven’t got close to the daily target, but in the whole year its only been 5 days where I haven’t done any walking whatsoever.
